Engineering Fundamentals 5th Edition by Saeed Moaveni

Overview

Now in dynamic full color, this Fifth Edition of SI ENGINEERING FUNDAMENTALS: AN INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING helps students develop the strong problem-solving skills and solid foundation in fundamental principles they will need to become analytical, detail-oriented, and creative engineers. The book opens with an overview of what engineers do, an inside glimpse of the various areas of specialization, and a straightforward look at what it takes to succeed. It then covers the basic physical concepts and laws that students will encounter on the job. To tie these principles to professional engineering, the author includes Professional Profiles that highlight the work of practicing engineers from around the globe. Using a flexible, modular format, the Fifth Edition demonstrates how engineers apply physical and chemical laws and principles, as well as mathematics, to design, test, and supervise the production of millions of parts, products, and services that people use every day.

  • A new full color design makes key content more engaging and easier to find.
  • A new focus on Learning Objectives and in-text testing complies with ABET requirements and helps students master content.
  • A full digital package, including a course-management system, gives students and instructors additional tools to make the course more rewarding.
  • End-of-chapter problems now include Research Problems that encourage students to solve problems using the Internet and traditional research methods, Communication Problems that emphasize the importance of developing good written and oral communication skills, and Teamwork Problems that encourage group participation.
  • Highlighted concepts, "Discussion Starters" (current readings followed by discussion questions) and section-ending "Before You Go On" questions help students understand and apply key concepts and skills.
  • Using a flexible modular structure, the book is organized into six parts that build upon each other, allowing students to hone their problem solving skills and develop an understanding of fundamental principles.
  • Each chapter begins with learning objectives and concludes by summarizing what the reader should have learned from studying that chapter.
  • Definitions, relevant everyday examples, and drawings work together to help students master key concepts.
  • Enough material is provided to give instructors the flexibility to choose specific topics to meet specific course and student needs.
  • A number of assignments that require information gathering using the Internet or employing traditional methods help students develop skills in gathering and properly using information.
  • Complimentary PowerPoint slides provide content for lectures (set one) and images and examples from the text (set two).
